OT Priesthood and Sacrificial system

• They were God-initiated
• They were a reminder
• They were a foreshadowing

1. Who were the OT high priests and what did they do? (Heb. 5:1-4)

• Chosen from among the people (v. 1)
• Act on behalf of men in relation to God (v. 1)
• To offer gifts and sacrifices for sins (v. 1)
• Dealt gently with the ignorant and those going astray (vv. 2-3)
• Must be appointed by God (v. 4)

2. Why does anyone need a high priest anyway?

• Because God is Holy (Is. 6:3)
• Because We are not (Rom. 3:23, Eph. 2)
• Because We cannot Hide (Heb. 4:13)

3. What makes Jesus our Great High Priest?

• His supremacy (Heb. 4:14)
• His Eternality (Heb. 7:16-17)
• His Humanity (Heb. 4:14, Heb. 2:17)
• His Deity (Heb. 4:14)

4. Why does any of this matter?

• Sin has been paid for and the offer of forgiveness still stands (Acts 4:12)
• We have Confident, Direct Access to the throne of God (Heb. 4:16)
• We have help available (Heb. 4:16)
