Sermon Outline
Absalom’s Plan (vv. 23-29)
- His heart was full of anger, rage, bitterness,
- He had no right taking matters into his own hands. (Deut. 32:35, Rom. 12:17)
Question # 1: Are you harboring any anger or bitterness in your soul against anyone?
The News Report (vv. 30-36)
- David receives fake news (v. 30)
- Jonadab sets the record straight (v. 32)
- “Jonadab has Skill w/o Scruples. Wisdom w/o Ethics, Insight w/o Integrity”. (Davies, p.169)
Question #2: Are you using what God has given you to promote your purposes or God’s
purposes?
The Fallout Continues (vv. 34-39)
- Everything now seems to be unraveling.
- At times, God saves us from the natural consequences of our sin, at times he does not.
- David found himself a prisoner of his own failures and mistakes.
Warning: Parents, don’t let your past failures/sin, compromise your resolve to confront your kids failures and sin.
Why did God put this chapter in the Bible?
- It exposes the problem of all our hearts.
- Gives us hope
- Although God is not mentioned, God is not absent (12:10-12)
- God has an answer for this mess (Is. 55:6-9, John 1:12, Titus 2:11-14, Rom. 7:24-25)
