Sermon Outline

Big Idea: God is a sovereign, good, loving, faithful God who is working behind the scenes in the midst of our difficulties.

When we are anchored to this truth, it will do a number of things for us:

1. Inspire us to Obedience (v.1-17)

• Ruth went about the daily tasks that God put in front of her (v. 2-3a)
  
  • What you and I do, is bigger than what you and I do.
• Ruth was a woman of courageous faith (Read v. 11-12)
• Boaz was a worthy man => integrity, influence, wealth
• Boaz cared about obeying the law. (v. 6-7) (Lev. 19:9, 23:22)
  
  • Do you constantly live out to the edges of your fields?
• Boaz was incred. Generous to Ruth-the Moabite, the foreigner (v. 14-17)

2. Move us to give praise to God even in the valleys (v.20)

• Naomi recognizes the work of God when she sees it
• Naomi remembered the kindness of God—Hesed

3. Remind us he is sovereignly working a bigger plan beyond our lives (v.20)

• Returned to Beth. at the beginning of the barley harvest (1:22)
• Ruth just “happened” to end up in Boaz’s field (2:3)
• Boaz “Happens” to come to his field at the time Ruth was working (2:4)
• Kinsman Redeemer: (Lev. 25, Deut. 25)
  
  • Must be Next of kin.
  • Must be ABLE to redeem.
  • Must be WILLING to redeem. (Heb. 2:11, 2 Cor. 5:21, Rom. 5:8)
