Teaching and Living God’s Word
Our goal is to be a cover-to-cover church. We intend to teach the entire Bible “as is”. We want to be culturally relevant and Biblically accurate. We trust that as we teach the Bible in a literal way, believers will live it out in a literal way.
BIG QUESTION: “Why is the Bible such a Big Deal?”
1. Because of where it comes from (16a).
- Breathed out by God
- God spoke through men
- “Above all you must understand, that no prophecy came about by the prophets own interpretation. For prophecy never had it’s origin in the will of man. But men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20-21) (NIV)
- ALL of it is God breathed. All of it ought to be obeyed. (1 Tim. 5:18, 2 Pet. 3:16)
- Amos 4:13: He who creates the mountains and forms the winds, he reveals his thoughts to man…
2. Because of its usefulness (16b-17)
- Useful for Teaching and Rebuking= Doctrine, Truth, Protection from Error
- Useful for Correction and Training= Conduct
- Heb. 4:12: The word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (NIV)
- Useful for making believers Competent and Equipped
3. Because of its Life-Giving Power (14-15)
- For the unbeliever
- For the believer (Ps. 119, Deut. 32:47, Matt. 4:4)
Application
- Read it Regularly
- Study it Expectantly
- Memorize it Systematically
- Pray through it Thoughtfully
- Listen to it and Obey it Humbly
