Titus
- The book: A letter written to a pastor. (1:1)
- The person: A pastor called to fix a broken church. (1:4-5)
The Main Issues in the Broken Church
Lack of godly leadership (1:5-9)
The Cretans were destroying families (1:10-13)
The circumcised party were leading people away from the Truth (1:14)
Non-believers were influencing the church culture (1:16)
Paul’s Prescription to Fixing What Was Broken
Appoint elders/shepherds/pastors/overseers that are above reproach (1:5-9)
Teach what accords with sound doctrine (2:1-15)
- Discipleship by mentorship
- Model godly living
- Rehearse the gospel
- Insist on the recall of regeneration and renewal
- Rebuke false teachers
Our Goals As A Local Church, and As A Leadership Team
Those who believe in God should be careful to devote themselves to good works, because these things are excellent & profitable (3:8)
- Good works flow from a life changed by God
- Philippians 4:8
- Colossians 3:1-3
Those who believe in God should NOT take part in the following; they are unprofitable & worthless (3:9)
- Matthew 7:15-20
- Foolish Controversies (1 Corinthians 1:11-13)
- Genealogies (Philippians 3:3b-11)
- Dissensions (Proverbs 6:12-19)
- Quarrels About the Law (Matthew 12:1-2,9-10; 23:1-7)
What Should Pastors/Elders Do With a Divisive Person In Their Church?
Warn him once.
Warn him twice.
Have nothing more to do with him. (3:10-11)
- Such a person has self-condemned themselves by their actions
- They are warped and sinful

- Be devoted to good works
- Help in cases of urgent need
- Seek to be fruitful
