Why was Jonah angry?
Jonah 4:1,3; 2 Kings 14:23-25
- The political, social, and spiritual climate of his time
- He desired justice for hisi ruthless enemy
- He was hopeful God would restore Israel
What did Jonah believe about God?
Jonah 4:2; Exodus 34:5-7; Micah 7:18
- God is gracious.
- God is merciful.
- God is slow to anger.
- God is abounding in steadfast love.
- God relents from disaster.
Does God cause suffering?
Jonah 4:5-8; 1 Peter 1:6-7; Jeremiah 32:15-37; Job 42:2
- God appointed protection (plant)
- God appointed the removal of protection (worm)
- God appointed physical pain (scorching wind)
What is God's response to Jonah?

- "Do you do well to be angry?" (I am God alone)
- "You pity the plant..." (I am Creator)
- "Should I not pity that great city?" (I am Redeemer)

What's Worth Remembering?
- God is...
- and I am NOT.
- In all things, He is fully trustworthy.
- He is always and completely worthy of praise and adoration.
- I can depend on Him in whatever He asks me to walk through, because He is: gracious, merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and relenting from deserved disaster.
