An Affectionate Bond and a Prayer for You

Sermon Outline

1. Paul’s Thankfulness for the Philippians (vv. 3-5)

  • He is thankful because they have partnered with him in gospel ministry from day 1.
  • Keep the worship and proclamation of Jesus Christ and his gospel central in your lives and in this church.
  • Continue to pray for John, Kevin, elders, leadership
  • We thank God whenever with think of you and will continue to do so.

2. Paul’s Affectionate Bond with the Philippians (vv. 7-8)

  • Key words (7) Feel, hold you in my heart, (8) Yearn/longing, Affection, (9) love
  • We truly love you all deeply.
  • From day 1 you have not stopped loving us and supporting us in ministry. Thank you!!
  • Keep it up!

3. The Reason for Paul’s Affectionate Bond with the Philippians (vv. 5, 7)

  • We are affectionately bound together primarily by the grace of God.
  • We have the same dad.
  • An affectionate bond that lasts for eternity.

4. Paul’s prayer for the people he loves (vv. 9-11)

  • Prayer can be 1 of the greatest expressions of love you have for one another.
  • That your love may abound (9)
  • In knowledge (9)
  • In all discernment (9)…So that we can determine what is best! (10)
  • Pure and blameless and Filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Christ: Growth and Maturity! (10-11)

Key Questions for Growth and Maturity:

  • When what I want and what God wants disagree--who wins?
  • Are you growing not just in the reading OF God’s word but also in submission TO God’s word?
