Big Idea:

Extravagant love is what is required. Extravagant love ought to mark every one of God’s children.

The set up:

• The Jewish definition of neighbor: other Jews
• Deut. 6:4-5 - Hear, O Israel: the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
• Lev. 19:18 - “You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.”

Application

• Question #1: Is there evidence in my life that I am truly Christ’s?
• Question #2: Have I set parameters around who I am required to love?

Jesus not only empowers us to live like this, but he has also gone before us.
